November 2017

The National CASA team is working to improve network communications processes. Regular information sharing and collaboration with state directors is a vital component. To this end, you will start to observe improvements as we revive a monthly newsletter that addresses your unique role. You will continue to receive the CASA/GAL News distributed to the entire network as well. The state director newsletter will continue to evolve in the weeks ahead to align with other improvements. We look forward to your feedback and suggestions! Please send input to Blondean Jones, blondeanj@casaforchildren.org.

State Leadership Council Transitions
As we approach the end of the year we have begun thinking about the changes which will occur on our State Leadership Council (SLC) when we turn the calendar to 2018. At the end of December we will be expressing our gratitude and saying farewell to six outstanding members of the SLC:

  • Maggie Blaedow, AL
  • Lynne Farrar, TN
  • Corrie Kielty, NE
  • Nancy Molever, AZ
  • Vicki Spriggs, TX
  • Doug Stephens, OH

These six members served for the 2016-2017 term. They have been instrumental in moving the partnership between state organizations and National CASA forward and their leadership has resulted in a stronger national network.

We are pleased to have two members who will be staying on the SLC until the end of 2018. They are:

  • Andrea Burns, KY
  • Mary Beth Luibel, AR

They too have shown outstanding leadership and commitment to advance the CASA/GAL network and we look forward to our continued work with them.

We will soon distribute an information packet as we seek interest from state directors and representatives to serve on the SLC from January 2018 through December 2019.

Up to nine members will be appointed. Three members of the SLC will serve on the National Leadership Council, the network advisory council to the National CASA Board of Trustees.

Stay tuned for details shortly!

People News
As National CASA continues to work toward our commitment to building, supporting and developing highly effective state organizations, we are building a strong and knowledgeable team. As you know, Blondean Jones, State Development Officer, joined our team in September. We are actively seeking a Director of State Development and adding a complimentary group of advisors and consultants.

We are pleased to announce that Duaine Hathaway, Executive Director of Georgia CASA, is joining National CASA as a part-time consultant/advisor. Duaine will work in collaboration with Blondean and all cross-functional staff in providing consultation, technical assistance, training and support to new and developing state CASA programs. He’ll also provide assistance to the State Development Officer as needed in working with the state organization network.

In addition, Bill Corwin has joined our team as a consultant/advisor to support state development and building resource development capacity. Bill is a former CASA local program director, National CASA Board Member and National CASA Chief Resource Development Officer.

If you haven’t submitted your board chair names yet, these are due right away. This is to support next steps in the Governance Initiative. Bill Collins, National CASA Board of Trustees Chair, plans to schedule a call for 8 a.m. PST Dec. 14 with your board chairs. The calls will focus on topics your board chairs have chosen to discuss. We would like 100 percent participation. Important note: You may also send a name of someone on your governing body if you do not have a board chair. Send details to Blondean at blondeanj@casaforchildren.org. Her phone number is 206-257-3706 if you have questions.
