Nominations Needed by Nov. 20: Judicial Leadership Council

National CASA is currently seeking nominations for active and retired judicial officers to serve on a new Judicial Leadership Council. Appointees will help engage judicial officers in addressing child welfare and court systems’ challenges and also provide guidance on strategies to strengthen judicial support at a national, state and local level.

Key things to know about this new council:
  • It will consist of up to 15 judicial officers representing jurisdictions from multiple states, court structures, tribal courts, and rural, suburban, and urban communities, with varying tenure, experience and skills.
  • Term of membership will be three-year staggered terms. In order to have staggered terms, initially one-third of the members will be appointed for either one-, two-, or three-year terms. Members can be reappointed.
  • Judicial officers include active and retired judges, presiding judges, appellate judges, commissioners, referees, or otherwise designated judicial officials exercising or having exercised jurisdiction over abused and neglected children in any court.

Appointments will be made by the Board of Trustees by end of 2017. If you have any questions, please contact Diane Nunn, Judicial Liaison, at 206-774-7283 or

Resources to Prep for Giving Tuesday
Giving Tuesday is quickly approaching on Nov. 28! According to Blackbaud’s #GivingTuesday Trends Report, this annual day of giving (always the Tuesday after Thanksgiving) has seen double-digit, year-over-year growth in online donations since 2012.

Be prepared to reach out to your program’s current and prospective donors.

In the week leading up to Giving Tuesday, National CASA will share stories on Facebook that celebrate the impact CASA and GAL volunteers have on the children they serve. We encourage you to share these posts with your program’s followers or post stories from your program’s volunteers in the lead-up to Nov. 28.

Meanwhile, check out these resources for strategies and tips to help you leverage this fundraising opportunity:
As a reminder, new holiday-themed resources and tools from National CASA will be available in early November. In the meantime, you can access and use the “Give Holiday” toolkit now.
