Kris Perry and Danielle Maurer Appointed to National CASA Board of Trustees

SEATTLE—The National Court Appointed Special Advocate Association (National CASA) today announced the unanimous election to its Board of Trustees of Kris Perry, Executive Director of the influential First Five Years Fund, and Danielle Simonetta Maurer, Senior Vice President at Fierce Government Relations. The National CASA Association is a nationwide network of CASA and Guardian Ad Litem programs that recruit, train, and support 86,000 volunteers who advocate for the best interests of more than 267,000 children before the court who have been abused or neglected.

“We are so pleased to welcome Kris Perry and Danielle Maurer as National CASA trustees,” said National CASA Chief Executive Officer Tara Perry. “The children we serve need strong advocates who will fight for policies and resources to help them heal and thrive. Kris and Danielle have spent their careers standing up for causes that matter, and we lucky to have them on our team.”

“America’s children are in crisis, and the needs of the children we serve are more complicated than ever,” said National CASA Board Chair Bill Collins. “Kris and Danielle bring decades of advocacy experience to National CASA’s board, and we are grateful to have their counsel as we fight for the best interests of the most vulnerable children in this country.”

Kris Perry has dedicated her career to bringing resources and support to parents and child service providers to ensure children grow up healthy and prepared to succeed. Under her leadership, the First Five Years Fund brings together influential investors—from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation to the George Kaiser Family Foundation—to advance federal investment in quality early childhood education for America’s youngest children. Perry previously served as executive director of First 5 California, where her leadership earned her a number of appointments to state advisory councils on early childhood education. A licensed clinical social worker, Perry started her career at the Alameda County Social Services Agency where she served as a Child Abuse Investigator, Family Preservation Case Manager, and a Senior Manager.

Danielle Simonetta Maurer brings extensive experience on Capitol Hill. Before joining Fierce Government Relations as senior vice president, she served as Director of Member Services for Speaker of the House John Boehner, assisting the Speaker in his Chairmanship of the Republican Steering Committee and managing his relationships with members of the Republican Conference. Maurer spent three years as Director of Federal Government Relations for pension giant TIAA. She also previously served as Senior Floor Assistant for House Majority Leader Tom DeLay and Deputy Associate Director of Legislative Affairs for the Office of Management and Budget under former Director and Indiana Governor, Mitch Daniels.

About the National CASA Association

The National Court Appointed Special Advocate Association (National CASA), together with its state and local member programs, supports and promotes court-appointed volunteer advocacy so every abused or neglected child in the United States can be safe, have a permanent home and the opportunity to thrive. Today, 86,000 court appointed special advocate and guardian ad litem volunteers serve more than 267,000 children, but more than 400,000 children are without a volunteer advocate. National CASA is working in partnership with its state and local programs in 49 states and D.C. to close that gap. For more information, visit www.CASAforChildren.org.
