Collaboration Between the Court and IV-D Agencies in Virginia

Judge A. Ellen White
Campbell County J&DR District Court, Rustburg, VA

In Virginia, there is a Support Committee comprising members of the Virginia Council of Juvenile and Domestic Relations District Court judges and representatives of the Division of Child Support Enforcement. The Support Committee serves as a liaison between the courts and the IV-D agency, meeting regularly to address issues of mutual concern to both groups. In 2002, this committee developed a protocol concerning access to FPLS information to locate parents in dependency cases. As a result, a form letter for requesting FPLS information was drafted and distributed to all of the judges for use in requesting FPLS data from the Division of Child Support Enforcement in dependency cases.
